Startup in Residence Den Haag 2019 has now officially started! This year we launched 7 challenges to which more than 70 startups applied. Based on the proposals, 17 startups were selected for the validation program. On Tuesday, June 25th, we welcomed all startups in Apollo 14, the impact startup building in The Hague. Here we held the kick-off of the programm with a ‘deep dive’, organised by Ideahackers. It was an inspirational day with various activities and conversations with civil servants. Whether they are on one line remains to be seen. One thing is sure, these startups will work hard in the coming weeks!
WORKSHOP ‘UNDERSTANDING YOUR CUSTOMER’
The day started with a workshop in which startups learned which questions to ask their customers. They prepared questions for the civil servants. The aim was to create questions that would help startups gain a better understanding of the challenges in order to develop suitable solutions.
MEETING THE CIVIL SERVANTS
The different startups and civil servants played an “ice breaker” game to get to know each other better and talked to each other in groups per challenge. The startups and civil servants worked together to create a “collab canvas”. With the help of this collaboration canvas the problem and the solution were mapped. This clearly shows who the customer is, which stakeholders are needed to develop the product, but also which departments are involved in the problem and what effect the solution can have.
THE NEXT STEPS
The 17 startups will participate in a validation program in the coming month, in order to validation and further develop their solutions. They will follow various workshops such as:
Experiment-driven approach. The riskiest assumptions;
Interview with customers;
Problem / solution fit & practical experiments;
Competitive advantage and strategy;
The startups will hand in an improved plan at the end of August. Following this, startups will pitch their solutions for civil servants and other stakeholders on September 5th. Based on the new plan and the pitch, the jury selects a maximum of 1 startup per challenge. This startup receives 5,000 euro, participation in the SIR 2019 program, a work place at Apollo 14, 10 free hours to spend on mentors of their choice and access to municipality’s network. We are looking forward to a great validation program and wish the startups good luck!
